English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs are tailored to meet the specific English language needs of groups or individuals. As such, they use materials and content relevant to specific employment sectors and specific situations.
Available according to demand, some examples of ESP programs offered through the ELI are:
• English for Academic Purposes (normally combined with IELTS preparation)
• English for International Business Communication (EIBC)
• English for Tourism & Hospitality (Tour Guide, Front Desk, F & B, Housekeeping staff, etc.)
• English for Finance and Banking
• English for IT
ESP programs are taught at a level and for a duration deemed appropriate for the students after a needs analysis has been conducted.
Skill-based courses:
Under ESP programs, ELI also offers short skill-based courses which include but are not limited to:

Placement Testing at ELI is required of all applicants to programs to determine appropriate course entry.
Placement Tests are held at the ELI twice weekly at the following times:
• Thursday: 3.00pm – 4.00pm
• Saturday 10.00am – 11.00am
Assessment
Students will be continuously assessed throughout the course when doing role-plays, pairwork, groupwork and homework assignments. In this manner, feedback is immediate to personnel as they practice applying ways in which they can enhance their English language skills. End of Course Assessment is required to be fulfilled by all students.
Certification
Certificates of Completion are awarded to students who successfully pass the End of Course Assessment and attend at least 80% of the course.
